MORE INFORMATION

Pastured Chicken

WFF meat chickens are raised on fresh pasture in mobile pens as soon as the chicks are strong enough to leave their brooder. We use mobile pens for predator protection (hawks, eagles, coyotes, foxes, skunks, raccoons, etc.). The pens are moved regularly for fresh grass & bugs and to maximize soil rejuvenation by ensuring our pasture receives the correct amount of aeration (scratching) and fertilizer (manure - too much can burn grass seedlings). Our chickens are supplemented with a non-GMO feed milled locally in Virginia. No antibiotics, growth promotants, or medication of any kind are administered.

Chicken is offered in various sizes of whole, boneless skinless breast, skin-on breast, tenderloins, wings, and leg quarters. We also offer backframes, necks, hearts, livers, and feet.

Pastured Turkey

WFF turkeys are raised on fresh pasture as soon as the poults are strong enough to leave their brooder.  They are moved regularly for fresh grass & bugs and to maximize soil rejuvenation (too much manure can burn seedlings, etc). They are supplemented with non-GMO feed milled locally in Virginia. No antibiotics, growth promotants, or medication of any kind are administered.

Feed your family a high quality, nutritious turkey this holiday! Added bonus that pastured turkeys tend to cook quicker and more evenly. Quantities are limited so be sure to purchase your turkey as soon as available.

Eggs from Pastured Chickens

WFF's layer flock is raised on pasture and when big enough they are moved to the "field coop" where they spend their time foraging our large field for yummy bugs, clover, and treats from our garden. They provide beautiful, delicious, nutrient-dense eggs all year long - even through winter! (we do not use supplemental lights.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you administer any antibiotics or hormones?
Our meat birds do not receive any antibiotics or medication of any kind. They are also not given any growth promotants or hormones (it is prohibited to administer artificial or added hormones in poultry production). A cleaner environment being moved regularly to fresh grass tends to result in healthier birds that don't need antibiotics, dewormers, etc.

How are your products packaged?
Items are packaged in shrink bags and frozen for maximum freshness. We chose to shrink bag our product as it negates the risk of having a vacuum seal break. Our poultry can be stored for up to a year without seeing a decrease in quality. We also offer farm pick-ups the day after processing for folks who prefer to receive their product prior to us freezing to capture peak freshness.

I want some chicken, how do I order it?
You can place an order through our online store or email us your request at info@windyfieldsfarm.com and pick up at the farm once you've been alerted that your order is ready. In most cases we can also meet at a location closer to you.

How does payment for the subscription work?
You receive 6 monthly subscription shares (May-October). You have the option to pay full amount at sign-up or you have an option to pay monthly at each pick up/delivery (first month due at time of subscribing). We ask that if you are interested in a chicken subscription for 2024 to please sign-up by March 1st, 2024.

If I want a turkey, do I need to reserve it? Also, do you only offer turkey in the fall?
We grow a limited amount of turkeys each year for Thanksgiving so reserving a turkey with a $20 deposit is highly recommended as they are in high demand. We try to keep some turkey available for our customers year round.
